The Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Docks Gabam For Alleged Misappropriation As SDP Chairman Reacts
Federal Capital Territory, on Tuesday docked the embattled former Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Shehu Gabam, for alleged financial misappropriation and other charges.
The case between between Gabam and the current Chairman of SDP, Sodiq Abubakar, are contained in case file No. DCC/10/2026, before the FCT Chief Magistrate Court.
Gabam, alongside Chukwuma Uchechukwu, were arraigned on six-count charges bordering on financial misappropriation at SDP amounting to over N35 million, forgery, and bridge of trust.
However, Gabam at the hearing pleaded not guilty before the judge of the Magistrate Court, Amauche Onyedium.
The magistrate therefore granted Gabam N3 million bail with two sureties within Abuja.
Speaking at the hearing, Abubakar said the opposition party decided to drag Gabam before the court in an effort to cleanse it from external influences.
“We are confident that the Judiciary will do justice to our millions of our members,” Abubakar said.
According to him, the party had asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to prosecute Gabam, but nothing was done, which is the reason they brought the matter before the judiciary.
“He squandered the party’s fund in his time between 2022 and 2023,” he noted.
Recall that Abubakar was elected as the chairman of SDP during the party’s national convention held in Bauchi on May 9th, 2026.
At the weekend, thugs suspected to be loyal to Gabam had put down the gate of the SDP’s national secretariat.

2027 ELECTION: A Political Analyst, Henry Shield, Has Said “No Reason For Divided Opposition”
A political analyst, Henry Shield, has said there is no justification for opposition parties to remain divided ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Shield stated this on Monday during a political programme in Abuja, where he urged opposition leaders to close ranks and present a united front capable of challenging the ruling party.
According to him, Nigerians are expecting a strong and coordinated opposition that can provide alternative leadership and address the country’s growing economic and security challenges.
“There is no reason to have a divided opposition in 2027. If the opposition parties truly want to rescue Nigeria, they must come together and speak with one voice,” he strongly said.
He warned that personal interests and internal rivalry among opposition politicians could weaken their chances in the next election cycle.
He also called on political stakeholders to place national interest above individual ambition, stressing that unity remains the strongest weapon against electoral defeat.
He maintained that coalition talks among opposition figures should be taken seriously to avoid repeating mistakes of previous elections.

BREAKING:Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC Dismisses Obetta’s Claim, Reaffirms Johnpaul Ani As Enugu Chairman
The leadership crisis rocking the Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, deepened on Tuesday as the party insisted that Dr. Johnpaul Anih remains the duly elected chairman of the party in the state.
In a statement signed by the NDC state Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Ugwueze, the party dismissed claims by Engr. Ibuchukwu Obetta, who allegedly reaffirmed himself as chairman of the party in Enugu State.
Ugwueze described Obetta’s claim as a deliberate attempt to mislead party members and the public about the authentic leadership structure of the NDC in the state.
According to the statement, the state congress of the party, conducted in line with the party constitution and the Electoral Act, produced Anih as the substantive chairman.
The party said the congress was attended by delegates, stakeholders and members from the 17 local government areas of the state.
The NDC further stated that the recently concluded National Convention marked the end of all interim and protem leadership structures within the party, making all duly elected officers the legitimate leaders at various levels.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the duly conducted state congress of the party in Enugu State produced Dr. Johnpaul Anih as the substantive State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The congress was attended by delegates, stakeholders, and party faithful from across the 17 local government areas of the state and followed the constitutional guidelines of the party and the Electoral Act.
“The just concluded National Convention marked the end of every protem or interim leadership structure within the party, thereby making every duly elected officer across different levels the legitimate and recognized leaders of the NDC,” Ugwueze said.
The party added that leadership positions could only be attained through democratic and constitutional procedures, not through “self-declaration and media propaganda.”
NDC therefore warned aspirants and supporters against making payments into personal accounts of individuals allegedly claiming to be party leaders, noting that such actions could amount to fraud.
