The leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Effiong Nyong, and former governorship candidate of the party, Peter Edeh, former national chairman for North Central, have re-emphasised that the major purpose and aim of the coalition party is to take power and reconstruct both Cross River State and Nigeria in general.

Both Nyong and Edeh spoke at the formal unveiling of the party in the state yesterday in Calabar.

Nyong, who leads the party in the state, lamented that many things have gone wrong and that the country has been run aground.

He pinpointed that the issue of insecurity has completely ruined the reputation and exposed the incompetence of the national ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the APC is incapable of securing the lives of Nigerians, as people are now killed wantonly in large numbers, making every day a nightmare.

“From all of the things that have been going on in Nigeria, insecurity has become the major concern, as citizens are slaughtered in their homes brazenly.

“The first duty of government at any level is to ensure that citizens are secure. But APC has failed grossly in this regard.

“In the last couple of years, every day has been a nightmare in Nigeria. People are killed, another 225 school children were kidnapped again from their school, houses are burnt, churches are attacked, and worshippers carried away by gun-toting criminals. The lives of people are not secured at all.

“We need to reset and cover our ungoverned spaces across Nigerian states, and Cross River State in particular.”

Speaking similarly at the unveiling of the party in the state, Dr. Peter Edeh, who represented the national vice chairman, said they have become a formidable force to rescue and reset the country, having erected political structures across the nation.

“The peace and glory of Nigeria have been lost, which is why it is now imperative for us to come in and reset the country. The fusion of different politicians into the coalition of ADC has made us more formidable.”
