BREAKING NEWS: Unprecedented Wave of Defection in Taraba State – APC Group

Published

on

The State Secretary of the Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Youth Vanguard, Dr. Jinadu Garvey Yaweh, has described the ongoing wave of political defections in the state as “unprecedented.”

Answering questions from journalists on Monday in Jalingo, the state capital, Tuesday, Yaweh noted that the steady movement of politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC had intensified in recent weeks.

According to him, all 24 members of the State House of Assembly, including the Speaker have now joined the APC, a development he described as a significant realignment of political structures in the state.

He further noted that several top government officials, including commissioners, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Gebon Timothy Kataps, and the PDP State Chairman, Abubakar Bawa, had also defected, leaving the PDP’s political machinery in the state “almost empty.”

He attributed the trend to what he termed the unifying leadership style of governor Agbu Kefas, whom he commended as “an embodiment of justice, fairness, and political maturity.”

He claimed that although Governor Kefas had not made a formal declaration, the governor had already aligned himself with the APC “unofficially,” with only the official ceremony yet to take place.

According to him, the governor’s formal move to the APC was delayed due to recent security concerns across the country, particularly the attack in Kebbi State, which prompted a review of his political engagements.

The APC youth leader argued that Taraba stands to gain more by aligning with the ruling party at the national level, saying such alignment would make it easier to attract developmental projects.

He also dismissed concerns that Nigeria was drifting toward a one-party system, insisting that the current wave of defections reflected strong leadership and political clarity, which he believed would foster unity and accelerate development in Taraba.

Morocco Winners of AFCON 2025, Strips Senegal of Title

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Morocco as winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The CAF Appeal Board ruled in favour of Morocco, declaring that Senegal forfeited the AFCON final by walking off the field during the game.

Morocco were awarded a 3–0 walkover victory.

This decision upholds Morocco’s appeal following the chaotic events in the match.

DAILY POST recalls that the Senegal team briefly walked off the pitch in protest after a controversial penalty was awarded to Morocco late in regulation time.

They were called back to the field by their captain, Sadio Mané, and later won the game 1–0.

CAF determined that this action constituted a violation of Article 84, or the equivalent regulations concerning refusal to play or abandoning the field.

Under AFCON rules, a team that refuses to continue playing or leaves the field without authorization faces elimination and forfeiture of the match.

A total of three operatives of different security agencies in Anambra State collapsed during the inauguration of Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday.

The incident happened during the parade at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.

The three operatives are one male police operative, another male operative of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) and a female operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

The police operative collapsed first, followed by the NSCDC operative, who slumped towards the end of the event and was later escorted to an ambulance, after she refused to be moved in a stretcher.

A source said the police operative was later resuscitated, but was still not stable, and was taken in an ambulance to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka.

The collapse of the service officers was attributed to fatigue and the long period of parade under harsh sunny weather.
