Aisha Yesufu Clarifies Peter Obi Not My Godfather But My Principal

Rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has clarified that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, is not her godfather but her principal.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Yesufu also said she was never a member of the Labour Party but supported Obi because of his perceived empathy, patriotism and commitment to Nigeria.

According to her, she was formerly a member of the African Democratic Congress before moving to the Nigerian Democratic Congress.

The activist also said she intends to take her advocacy into politics, stressing that her priority as a lawmaker would be to hold the executive accountable.

She noted that if elected into the Senate to represent the Federal Capital Territory, she would not support what she described as frivolous loan requests from the executive arm of government, regardless of who occupies the presidency.

She said, “I don’t have a godfather. Peter Obi is not my godfather. He is my principal.

“First of all, I was never in the Labour Party, and I think I’ve said this repeatedly. I don’t know whether I need to put it on my phone. I was a supporter of Mr Peter Obi.

“I was a member of the African Democratic Congress, and from there I moved down to the Nigerian Democratic Congress.

“I gave my words to Peter Obi, and I see him right now as that person who has empathy, who is patriotic, and who cares enough about Nigeria for it to work for Nigerians.

“I want someone who gets into office and I don’t need to keep making demands, you understand.

“I’m taking advocacy and activism into politics because, for me, as a lawmaker, if I get voted in, by the grace of God, my number one business is holding the executive accountable.

“You can’t come as a president, Mr Peter Obi, being the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, cannot just come to the Senate with frivolous, you know, application for loans, and I, Aisha Yesufu, is representing FCT.”

Kenneth Okonkwo Mocks Peter Obi, Telling Him To Ask For Money If He Needs Money To Contest

Veteran Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has continued to react to the reports that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, is demanding N5 billion in damages over alleged defamatory remarks.

In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, Okonkwo mocked the reported legal action, suggesting that Obi was seeking funds for political campaigns.

The former Obi campaign spokesman claimed that if Obi needed funds for political activities, he should ask him privately rather than resort to what he described as extortion.

“It has been brought to my notice that there is a letter circulating online from the hypocrite, Peter Obi, and his lawyers that I should pay him N5b. Hahaha!

“If Peter Obi is looking for money to campaign, he should privately ask me for assistance, not come from extortion, and I will help him. I did so when I was his spokesperson, paying for my flight tickets and booking for my hotel accommodation to some of our campaigns,” Okonkwo said.

Okonkwo further alleged that he personally covered some expenses during his time as Obi’s spokesperson, including flight tickets and hotel accommodation for campaign activities.

The actor-turned-politician said he had not yet read the letter but warned that any legal action could compel him to disclose information he obtained while serving as Obi’s spokesperson.

According to him, he had refrained from sharing confidential information out of principle but suggested that such restraint could change if the matter proceeded to court.

He also challenged Obi and his legal team to pursue the case, insisting that he was prepared to respond after reviewing the letter.

Okonkwo stated that he would formally respond to the demand letter after reading it.
