Breaking News: Lagos Bridge Rehabilitation Closure Is Postponed
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Lagos State Sector Command, has announced a new date for the temporary closure of Eko Bridge to allow rehabilitation works along the UBA–Apongbon–Ijora corridor.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, disclosed that the closure will now commence at 12:00 midnight on Tuesday, May 19, instead of the earlier scheduled date of May 11.
According to Hamzat, the adjustment followed a strategic meeting between officials of the FRSC and the Federal Controller of Works, Mr Olufemi Dare, where implementation plans and public safety concerns were reviewed.
“I wish to inform the motoring public of the impending temporary closure of the Eko Bridge to facilitate rehabilitation works on the UBA–Apongbon–Ijora corridor,” he stated.
“After due consideration of operational and public safety factors, the planned closure, which was earlier proposed to take effect at 12:00 midnight on Tuesday, May 11, has been rescheduled and will now commence on Tuesday, May 19, from 12:00 midnight.”
The FRSC advised motorists to use alternative routes including UBA, Outer Marina, Third Mainland Bridge, Egbelẹta and other adjoining corridors throughout the duration of the repair works.
Hamzat appealed to road users to remain patient, obey traffic regulations and comply with diversion signs that would be installed around affected areas.
He further stated that FRSC personnel, alongside other traffic management agencies, would be strategically deployed across major routes to maintain order and ensure free flow of traffic during the closure period.
The sector commander also encouraged commuters to properly plan their movements, follow traffic directives and avoid reckless driving around diversion points.
He added that the FRSC appreciates the cooperation of motorists as authorities continue efforts aimed at improving road infrastructure and enhancing transportation safety across Lagos State.
