Taraba State Chapter of PDP Calls for Unity After Supreme Court Ruling on Internal Party Dispute
The Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for unity, discipline, and renewed commitment among its members following a recent judgment by the Supreme Court on internal party matters.
In a statement issued on Monday in Jalingo, the state capital, the PDP State Chairman, Obidah James Bitru, described the ruling as both legally binding and a critical moment for reflection within the party.
He emphasised that the decision underscores the importance of due process, adherence to the party constitution, and collective interest over individual ambition.
According to Bitru, the judgment has reaffirmed the principle that internal party processes must remain transparent, lawful, and consistent with established guidelines.
He noted that the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) had already convened and issued resolutions aligning with the court’s decision, urging members nationwide to respect legitimate party structures and leadership.
“The ruling is not just a legal conclusion but a reminder that the strength of our party lies in unity and discipline,” he said.
The Taraba PDP leadership declared its full acceptance of the Supreme Court’s verdict, rejecting any form of factional leadership or parallel structures. Party members were also directed to comply strictly with instructions from the national leadership in line with the BOT’s guidance.
Bitru further called for reconciliation among aggrieved members, describing the moment as an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen the party ahead of future political engagements.
He announced plans to reinforce internal mechanisms to ensure that party congresses, primaries, and other activities comply fully with constitutional provisions and electoral guidelines.
While extending an olive branch to members with past grievances, the chairman maintained that the party would not tolerate actions capable of undermining its stability.
He also urged party leaders at all levels to intensify grassroots mobilisation and refocus efforts on service delivery to the people of Taraba State.
Reiterating the party’s long-term vision, Bitru said the PDP remains stronger than any individual and expressed confidence that unity would position the party for future success.
Calling for calm, loyalty, and alignment with the party’s lawful direction, he expressed optimism that the PDP in Taraba would emerge more united and better prepared in the aftermath of the ruling.

2027 Election: Peter Obi can’t Emerge – Ebonyi Senator
The lawmaker representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has said that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is contesting for presidency at the wrong time.
Nwebonyi made this statement on Wednesday during a live appearance in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.
He was speaking on the next year’s general elections and the possibility of an Igbo man becoming the president.
“Peter Obi is coming at the wrong time. If you listened carefully and with keen interest on the enumeration I made few minutes ago, you will agree with me that it goes without saying that President Tinubu and other APC candidates will win in South East come 2027 general election.
“The reasons are bound. I’ve said it here. Igbo people are seeing it. We’ve taken our position and even if our son comes to contest, it is very clear that the political permutation as at present does not favour an Igbo man to be president of Nigeria.
“We must tell ourselves the truth, and we can’t be deceived all the time. We know the best time to strike to get the number one seat, and all Nigerians will support us,” the lawmaker said.

Former Governor Nyame Resigns from APC Over Alleged Marginalisation
A former governor of Taraba State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jolly Nyame, has resigned from the ruling party, citing alleged marginalisation and unfair treatment of his people.
Nyame announced his decision while addressing members of his support group following a Federal High Court verdict in Jalingo. This was contained in a video circulating on social media.
The former governor said he consulted with supporters and stakeholders from Zing Local Government Area before deciding to leave the APC in search of another political platform through which he could continue to serve the people.
He explained that he was joining forces with like-minded individuals committed to the development of the area, adding that years of loyalty and contributions to the APC had not translated into fair treatment for him and his community.
“As the Dabon Yarro and leader of the entire Yorro community worldwide, comprising Mumuye, Yandan, Yorti and others, if they will not honour me, who then will they honour among my people?” he asked.
Nyame alleged that people from his zone had for years faced political exclusion and lacked adequate representation in the affairs of the state.
The former governor also disclosed that pressure had been mounting on him to contest elective office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“At my age, it is not a must for me to contest any elective position, but the pressure from the people is enormous. They believe their voices have been suppressed for too long,” he said.
He warned that continued silence over the alleged injustice against the people could further worsen their situation and called on his supporters to stand with him in the struggle to improve the fortunes of the people.
