Breaking: APC Lagos Chapter Urges Tinubu To Establish State Police

Published

on

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has backed the call by Southwest governors urging President Bola Tinubu to accelerate the establishment of State Police across the federation, in response to renewed insecurity.

Mogaji Seye Oladejo, spokesman of the Lagos State chapter of the APC, described the call as “timely, forthright and pragmatic.”

Oladejo noted that only the enemies of peace would oppose the push for State policing.

In a statement he signed, Oladejo said that for years, the Southwest has been at the forefront of advocating for a modern, community-rooted security architecture capable of responding swiftly and intelligently to evolving threats.

He added that the governors have once again demonstrated leadership, unity of purpose, and a clear understanding of the security realities confronting the nation.

According to Oladejo: “Their position aligns squarely with the long-standing progressive philosophy of our party: security must be local to be effective.

President Tinubu has consistently shown the political will to reform, strengthen, and modernize Nigeria’s internal security framework.

The call by the governors only reinforces the President’s already established commitment to a responsive, people-centered, and technologically enhanced security ecosystem.”

The Lagos APC affirmed that the call is timely, logical, and inevitable.

“The security challenges facing the country require multi-layered policing solutions. State Police, properly designed, professionally regulated, and federally coordinated, will bring security closer to communities, improve intelligence gathering, and deter crime in real time,” he said.

Oladejo noted that the Southwest continues to lead by example.

“From the Amotekun initiative to consistent investment in local security infrastructure, the Southwest has proven that decentralized security works. The call for State Police is simply the next logical step.

We reaffirm our total support for both the Renewed Hope security reforms and the united stance of Southwest leaders. The security of our people is non-negotiable.

The time for State Police is not just ripe, it is overdue. The Lagos APC is fully aligned with this patriotic call and urges all stakeholders nationwide to join hands with President Tinubu to deliver a safer, stronger, and more secure Nigeria for all.”

DAILY POST has reported on Tuesday that the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke and the Osun State All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship Campaign Council exchanged accusations over a wave of violence reported in parts of Osun State, as both sides called for security intervention and investigations into the incidents.

The allegations followed reports of attacks and shootings in Osogbo, Ede and Ile-Ife, with the state government, the APC and the Accord offering differing accounts of the disturbances and assigning responsibility to rival political groups.

Addressing an emergency press briefing in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke condemned the coordinated attacks by political thugs allegedly associated with the governorship campaign of APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.

However, the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council rejected the governor’s claims and accused supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Accord of orchestrating attacks against APC members and campaign assets.

Meanwhile, the Accord through a statement signed by its Osun State Chairman, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, alleged that armed thugs allegedly linked to the APC governorship campaign carried out shootings in parts of Osogbo and Owode-Ede, resulting in casualties and injuries.
