The remains of Deputy Superintendent of Customs, DSC, Sadiq Tahir Muhammad, who was shot dead by gunmen in Kebbi State, were laid to rest on Sunday amid tears and grief.

Muhammad, who was attached to the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, was buried at the Makeran Gwandu Cemetery after funeral prayers held at the Emir of Gwandu’s Palace in Birnin Kebbi.

The burial was attended by Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, members of the Emirate Council, senior and retired Customs officers, as well as family members and sympathisers who described the late officer as disciplined and committed to duty.

DAILY POST reports that the officer was killed on Saturday night when gunmen, said to be members of the Lakurawa armed group, attacked a Nigeria Customs Service checkpoint along the Maje axis of Bagudo Local Government Area.

In a statement, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, mourned the deceased, describing his death as a painful loss to the Service and the nation. He directed a full investigation into the attack, assuring that those responsible would be brought to justice.

“The Service deeply regrets the loss of one of its dedicated officers and will continue to stand by his family during this difficult time,” the statement read in part.

The Comptroller-General reaffirmed the Service’s resolve to strengthen border security operations and protect personnel serving in volatile areas.
