NNPP to Take Legal Action Over INEC’s Alleged Contempt of Court
The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has said it will deploy all lawful means to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to comply with existing court orders regarding the party’s leadership dispute.
The party stated this in a release issued on Wednesday by its Secretary General, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, following a closed-door meeting between selected NNPP executives, their legal counsel, Segun Fiti, and the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, in Abuja.
Olaposi said the meeting was convened to address concerns over INEC’s alleged failure to implement court judgments on the NNPP leadership tussle, but described the engagement as inconclusive and unproductive.
He said the party had exercised patience and pursued legal channels, including judgments from various courts, which he claimed directed INEC to recognise the leadership led by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam as Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Dr. Agbo Major as Chairman of the National Working Committee, NWC.
According to him, the delegation presented multiple court rulings, including those of the Abia State High Court, the Federal Capital Territory High Court, and the Owerri Court of Appeal, which allegedly ordered INEC to comply with the decisions.
Olaposi further alleged that despite a mandamus order directing INEC to update its records within 72 hours and file an affidavit of compliance, the commission had failed to act.
He also claimed that the Appeal Court in Owerri issued additional directives for compliance, which were yet to be implemented.
The NNPP scribe said the INEC Chairman, during the meeting, did not provide clear reasons for the commission’s alleged non-compliance, adding that he only stated that the party would “hear from the commission.”
Olaposi said the development suggests uncertainty over when the commission intends to act, even as preparations toward the 2027 general elections continue.
He added that the party would consider seeking further legal remedies, including possible adjustments to the electoral timetable to protect its participation in the elections.
The NNPP also called on President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, the judiciary, and security agencies to take note of the situation, warning that no institution should operate above the law.
The party insisted that it remains committed to pursuing justice through lawful and constitutional means.

HANTAVIRUS: Passengers Told Virus-Hit Cruise Ship ‘Not Infectious’ After First Death
A video filmed by a passenger on board the MV Hondius shows its captain saying that a man who had died there passed away due to “natural causes”.
The captain aboard the hantavirus-hit cruise ship can be seen telling passengers on 12 April that a doctor had said the individual was “not infectious”.
Three confirmed and five suspected cases of hantavirus – a rare but severe disease usually spread by rodents – have since been identified.
Turkish YouTuber Ruhi Çenet, who was on board the cruise ship and filmed the announcement, told the BBC that no immediate safety precautions were taken at the time.
Around 150 people from 23 countries are currently stranded on the vessel near Cape Verde, off the west coast of Africa.
Oceanwide Expeditions, the cruise ship operator, told the BBC the first report of hantavirus came “after disembarkation at St Helena” and says it “acted as we reported via our press updates” following the first identified hantavirus case on 4 May.

See How Your Bad Habits Are Destroying Your Charging Cables
Ready for an anatomy lesson? Your cables are full of little metal wires wrapped with insulation. On the far end, they thread into a connector with a plug at the end. That joint is where things go wrong. It makes sense if you think about it. When you’re using a cable, the connector acts like an anchor, and all the bending happens right at the end of the wire.
Imagine a paper clip. Bend it at the same point over and over and it breaks. “On a microscopic level, bending beyond the elastic range makes the bonds between the atoms break and reform as they shift positions,” says Robert Hyers, head of the mechanical and materials engineering department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the US. “You get this accumulation of defects called dislocations where the atoms don’t line up, like wrinkles in a rug.” Too many dislocations hardens the metal, then it snaps, and your paper clip is ruined. The metal wires inside a cable work the same way.
Hopefully you’ll feel bad enough for those atoms to avoid some of these common problems. “One thing a lot of people do, including me sometimes when I’m lazy, is just pull on the long part of the cable to unplug it,” Pecht says. “That’s causing additional stress where it wouldn’t if you just pulled on the connector itself.”
A key source of strife comes from cables that are too short for the job, Hyers says. If you’re stretching the cable out to make it reach a socket, you’re hurting it. Or, if you find yourself lying in bed (or anywhere else for that matter) with your phone plugged in, pulling the connector at a sharp angle to keep using it, you’re asking for trouble.
“Another thing we see people do is plug their phone in and then stick it in the cup holder in their car to prop it up,” says Weins. “So, the phone is sitting on the cable and all the pressure of the phone weight, including bouncing as you drive, is right on that point.” Stop it. That’s just cruel.
