Jigawa Police Places Statewide Ban On Fireworks, Knockouts
The Jigawa State Police Command has announced a statewide ban on the sale, possession and use of fireworks, knockouts and pili cards during the Christmas and New Year festivities, citing safety and security concerns.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Dutse by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, who said the measure was necessary to protect lives and property during the festive season.
According to him, the loud explosions from fireworks and knockouts often create panic, lead to injuries and damage property, especially in crowded areas.
He noted that children, the elderly and people with health challenges are particularly vulnerable to the effects of such explosive sounds.
“The ban is aimed at safeguarding the public, especially vulnerable groups who may be negatively affected by these activities,” Adam said, urging residents to celebrate responsibly.
He appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and ensure they comply with the directive, stressing that public safety remains a top priority for the command.
Adam warned that anyone found violating the ban would be arrested and prosecuted, adding that police officers have been deployed to strategic locations across the state, including markets, churches and other public places, to ensure strict enforcement.
“Our officers are on high alert. We will enforce this ban without compromise,” he said.
The police spokesperson also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities or individuals involved in the sale or use of fireworks to the nearest security agency, describing public cooperation as vital to achieving a peaceful festive period.
He further disclosed that the ban applies to all parts of Jigawa State, with checkpoints and regular patrols already in place to ensure compliance, noting that the command is working closely with other security agencies.
He however wished Christians and all residents a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Morocco Winners of AFCON 2025, Strips Senegal of Title
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Morocco as winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The CAF Appeal Board ruled in favour of Morocco, declaring that Senegal forfeited the AFCON final by walking off the field during the game.
Morocco were awarded a 3–0 walkover victory.
This decision upholds Morocco’s appeal following the chaotic events in the match.
DAILY POST recalls that the Senegal team briefly walked off the pitch in protest after a controversial penalty was awarded to Morocco late in regulation time.
They were called back to the field by their captain, Sadio Mané, and later won the game 1–0.
CAF determined that this action constituted a violation of Article 84, or the equivalent regulations concerning refusal to play or abandoning the field.
Under AFCON rules, a team that refuses to continue playing or leaves the field without authorization faces elimination and forfeiture of the match.

A source said the police operative was later resuscitated, but was still not stable, and was taken in an ambulance to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka.
The collapse of the service officers was attributed to fatigue and the long period of parade under harsh sunny weather.
