BREAKING NEWS: Jonathan receives ADC presidential aspirant, Hayatu-Deen
Former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Friday received the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in Abuja, where both men discussed the state of the nation and the outlook for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The meeting, according to a statement issued by Mohammed Hayatu-Deen Media Office on Saturday, reflected the longstanding relationship between the two men, who previously worked together during Jonathan’s administration.
Hayatu-Deen had served as a member of the National Council on Privatization and chaired the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) when Jonathan was Vice President. He also later served on the Presidential Advisory Committee during Jonathan’s tenure as Acting President and subsequently as President.
The statement noted that Hayatu-Deen recently obtained his ADC presidential nomination form from the party’s national secretariat and formally informed Jonathan of his decision to seek the presidency in 2027.
During the visit, Hayatu-Deen praised Jonathan’s contributions to democratic governance and electoral integrity across Africa, describing the former president as a respected statesman on the continent.
Jonathan, in response, warmly welcomed the ADC aspirant and wished him success in his political journey.
Hayatu-Deen’s media office described the economist and banker as a seasoned public and private sector professional whose four-decade career has contributed to job creation and institutional reforms across the country.
The statement added that Hayatu-Deen intends to leverage his experience to address insecurity, reduce the rising cost of living and create employment opportunities for Nigerians if elected president.

FGN Issues Fresh Fuel Import Licenses to Petrol Marketers
In a new policy shift, the Nigerian government, through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, resumed issuance of petrol import licenses to petroleum marketers.
The licenses were issued to six petroleum marketers expected to import around 720,000 metric tons of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).
DAILY POST reports that the move is a policy shift from a focus on local refineries, in this case the Dangote Refinery.
Beneficiaries are major oil marketers such as NIPCO, AA Rano, Matrix, Shafa, Pinnacle, and Bono.
NIPCO is expected to import 120,000 metric tons; AA Rano, 150,000 MT; Matrix, 150,000 MT; Shafa, 120,000 MT; Pinnacle, 120,000 MT; and Bono, 60,000 MT, totaling 720,000 MT of petrol imports.
Although the NMDPRA officially stated the reason for the fresh licenses, Dangote Refinery has repeatedly reiterated its capacity to meet local fuel consumption demand. Even NMDPRA’s recent industrial data showed that the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery supplied 90 percent of the country’s daily consumption.
Meanwhile, NMDPRA’s recent decision toward petrol imports has stirred concerns among stakeholders.
The development comes barely a week after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Chief Executive Officer of NMDPRA.
President Tinubu had sacked Saidu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA while he was on official duty in Germany.

INTERNAL CRISIS: Court Cases Avenue to Ambush ADC, Create Clear Pathway for APC – Ladan Salihu
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Ladan Salihu, has described the party’s court cases as an avenue to ambush the party and create a one-way traffic for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections.
Salihu made this statement on Friday during a live appearance in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.
He was speaking on the leadership crisis in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, Nafiu Bala Gombe resigned from his position in the party, stressing that they have his signature on the resignation letter.
“This case has been settled. It is all in a trap to ambush the ADC and to make sure that a pathway is created for the APC and the presidential candidate to have a one-way traffic to 2027.
“Our legal team is right on top of this matter. The fact of the matter remains that Nafiu Gombe resigned. We have his papers, we have his signatures, we have everything, and this guy is a willing tool in the hands of the APC and the government,” Salihu said.
