Breaking : APC Members Protest At Lagos Secretariat, Demand Cancellation of Primary Results

Published

on

Scores of members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Tuesday staged a protest at the party’s Lagos State Secretariat in Ikeja, demanding the cancellation of primary election results in several constituencies over alleged irregularities.

The demonstrators, drawn from various constituencies including Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I and Somolu Constituency II, urged the party leadership to investigate complaints arising from the recently concluded House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly primaries.

The APC conducted its legislative primaries in May and subsequently announced the names of successful candidates. However, some aspirants and party members have continued to challenge the outcomes, insisting that the published results did not reflect the decisions made by party members during the direct primary elections.

The protesters called on the party’s leadership and relevant appeal panels to review the conduct of the elections and address what they described as widespread procedural breaches.

One of the petitions was submitted by House of Representatives aspirant for Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, Mr Ayodele Adewale, who challenged the outcome of the primary election in the constituency.

Adewale alleged that the exercise across the constituency’s 11 wards was marred by significant procedural violations, including the absence of an official membership register during accreditation.

He further claimed that accreditation was conducted using APC slips that were neither properly verified nor officially recognised.

The aspirant urged the appeal committee to thoroughly investigate the accreditation and voting processes and nullify the election outcome.

Similarly, House of Assembly aspirant for Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II, Mr David Doherty, faulted the transparency of the exercise, alleging that aspirants were excluded from critical decisions leading up to the election.

He also claimed that armed individuals disrupted voting in some riverine communities by firing gunshots, forcing party members to flee from polling locations.

Doherty called for the cancellation of the constituency’s results and demanded sanctions against anyone found culpable of electoral misconduct or violence.

In Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, petitioners alleged widespread irregularities, including result manipulation, improper collation procedures and breaches of electoral guidelines.

According to them, some electoral officials failed to appear at designated collation centres, while certain results were allegedly altered.

They further claimed that votes were inflated in some wards and that proper accreditation procedures were not followed.

The petitioners requested a verification of ward-level results and a forensic review of disputed result sheets and signatures.

Speaking on behalf of protesters from Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II, Prince Hakeem Ola described the alleged treatment of Doherty as unfair and unacceptable.

He maintained that party members should be allowed to choose their representatives freely through a transparent and credible democratic process.

Ola alleged that Doherty emerged victorious in the primary election but that attempts were being made by some party leaders to overturn the outcome.

Another protester from Agege Local Government Area, Mr Oluwasola Olugbemi, warned against what he described as efforts to impose candidates on party members.

He argued that ignoring the preferences of party members undermines democratic values and weakens confidence in the electoral process.

Protesters from Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I and Somolu Constituency II also submitted petitions alleging attempts to alter the outcomes of their respective primaries.

They appealed to the party leadership to uphold the results already forwarded to the APC National Secretariat.

The demonstrators insisted that the credibility of the APC’s internal democratic process was at stake and called for a transparent resolution of all disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Despite the morning rainfall, the protesters gathered outside the party secretariat, chanting solidarity songs and demanding action on their grievances.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the APC dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the state chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, was harassed during the protest.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mrs Omobola Akingbehin, the party clarified that Ojelabi was not present at the secretariat when the protest took place.

Akingbehin stated that while the party respected the constitutional right of members to express grievances through lawful means, such actions should be carried out responsibly.

She noted that the primary election process had been concluded and that established internal mechanisms were already available for resolving disputes arising from the exercise.

The party encouraged aggrieved aspirants and members to utilise the appropriate channels in the interest of unity, fairness and the continued growth of the APC.

Akingbehin also urged party members, stakeholders and the general public to disregard what she described as misleading reports and rely solely on information released through official party communication platforms.

BREAKING NEWS: Nigerians Want Action, Not Promises – Sharia Council Tells FG on Insecurity

Published

on

The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN) has criticised the worsening security situation in the country, urging the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive steps to protect lives and property.

In a statement issued by its Secretary General, Nafi’u Baba-Ahmad, the council said Nigerians continue to face killings, kidnappings, terrorist attacks, banditry and other violent crimes despite repeated assurances from authorities.

The group described the situation as alarming, pointing to recent attacks and mass abductions in Borno, Oyo, Niger and Zamfara states, as well as the kidnapping of a retired army general and his wife in Katsina State. It said these incidents highlight how vulnerable many communities remain after years of insecurity.

According to the council, many tragedies experienced across the country do not make headlines, while reports from security and human rights organisations show that thousands of people have been killed, abducted or displaced in recent months.

“Behind each statistic lies a human story, a life cut short or disrupted, a grieving family, and a community forced to live in fear, uncertainty, and insecurity,” the statement said.

The council expressed frustration that repeated calls by citizens, traditional rulers, religious leaders and civil society groups for stronger government action have produced little progress.

“Nigerians are tired of speeches, promises, condolences, committees, and official rhetoric not backed by action or results. What the nation needs now is decisive action and measurable results,” it stated.

SCSN stressed that providing security is a constitutional responsibility of government and not a favour to citizens. It warned that leaders must either effectively carry out their duties or make way for those who can.

“The time has come for those entrusted with leadership to either effectively perform their responsibilities or relinquish their positions to those who can,” the council saidWhile criticising the government’s handling of insecurity, the council praised members of the armed forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices and dedication.

It also called for greater transparency in the use of security funds, noting that trillions of naira have been spent on defence and intelligence operations over the years. The council argued that Nigerians deserve answers on how those resources have been used as insecurity continues to worsen.

The group urged authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, technology, border security, inter-agency cooperation and community participation to tackle criminal networks.

“The nation demands action. The time for excuses has passed. The time for demonstration of decisive and competent leadership is now,” the statement concluded.

Breaking: BYM, MACBAN Trade Words Over Alleged Killings In Plateau State

Published

on

The Berom Youth-Moulders Association, BYM, and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, are currently at loggerheads following allegations and counter-allegations over violent attacks and killings across Plateau State.

The BYM first raised the concern in a statement on Tuesday over what it described as a misleading narrative by the state chapter of MACBAN where the Fulani group alleged that a gang of “Berom Militias” had attacked herders and their cows in Jos South Local Government Area on Friday, June 5, 2026, where a 15-year-old herder was reportedly killed.

In the statement issued by the MACBAN Chairman in the state, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, accused Berom youths of attacking the herders and killing the teenager identified as Sadi Aliyu, as well as 11 cows at Sabon Gidan Kanar community of the council.

Babayo said the herders were tending to their cattle peacefully when the gunmen suddenly stormed the area and opened fire on them.

“The attack was unprovoked as the victim alongside his colleagues was rearing their cattle when the gunmen attacked them. They shot one herder and 13 cattle dead. About 11 cattle are still missing,“ the MACBAN Chairman had said.

He added that the continuous targeting of innocent herders and their livestock was unacceptable and poses a serious threat to peaceful coexistence and security in Plateau State.

But while reacting to the allegations by MACBAN, the BYM in its own statement on Tuesday, said the claims that those who carried out attacks were “Berom Militias” were not only baseless but misleading and unfounded.

The statement which was issued by the National Publicity Secretary of BYM, Rwang Tengwong, stated that on the contrary, Fulani bandits have been on the rampage, invading and sacking rural communities and killing innocent residents.

“Contrary to MACBAN claims, available information from the affected community indicates that armed Fulani terrorists took advantage of the early morning rainfall last Friday to launch an attack on unsuspecting residents of Ful who had already gone out in search of their livelihood before the rain commenced,” Tengwong said.

Citing a particular incident where a member of the affected community was ambushed and killed in a targeted attack, Tengwong said:

“The attack resulted in the killing of a community member, Mr. Jan while another resident, Mr. Silvanus Toma, sustained gunshot wounds on the head and is currently receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, in critical condition.

“BYM strongly condemns every loss of innocent life regardless of ethnicity, religion or occupation. However, we reject attempts to distort facts, criminalise entire communities and ignore the suffering of indigenous residents who continue to bear the brunt of violent attacks.

“We call on security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial and professional investigation into the incident and ensure that all perpetrators, irrespective of their background, are brought to justice,” the BYM said.
