Anambra: Gov. Soludo Signs 2026 Appropriation Bill Into Law
Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law.
The signing ceremony held at the Light House in Awka, the governor said heralds a new chapter in the state’s fiscal management and governance.
The 2026 Appropriation Law, which saw the budget increased from N757 billion to N766 billion, following extensive deliberations by the state assembly, which the governor also said lays financial framework for the state’s priorities.
A statement by the governor’s spokesman, Chris Anytime, said, “These priorities include fostering economic growth, accelerating infrastructure projects, and enhancing social welfare programmes across Anambra.
“This budget is more than numbers — it is a strategic plan crafted to deliver on our administration’s promises. We have focused on what truly matters to the people, ensuring that resources are allocated to meet the critical needs in our communities.
“Beyond the appropriation law, the governor also signed into law three other vital bills that demonstrate the administration’s commitment to good governance and sustainable progress.
“These laws include the Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025, the Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for collection) Law, 2025, and the Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025.
“Governor Soludo praised the state lawmakers, saying our productive partnership with the House of Assembly has been crucial. Their thoroughness and cooperation have helped deliver laws that will accelerate the development and prosperity of Anambra State.
“We submitted draft appropriation of N757 billion but in their wisdom after various reviews, the budget size very slightly increased to N766 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. So, we now get to work.
“Transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance are not just ideals; they are the bedrock of our government. By enacting these laws, we are creating the enabling environment for effective service delivery and sustainable growth.”
The Governor was joined in a short ceremony for the signing by Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi.
Others were; Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof (Mrs) Sylva Chika Ifemeje; Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake; among others.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Morocco as winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The CAF Appeal Board ruled in favour of Morocco, declaring that Senegal forfeited the AFCON final by walking off the field during the game.
Morocco were awarded a 3–0 walkover victory.
This decision upholds Morocco’s appeal following the chaotic events in the match.
DAILY POST recalls that the Senegal team briefly walked off the pitch in protest after a controversial penalty was awarded to Morocco late in regulation time.
They were called back to the field by their captain, Sadio Mané, and later won the game 1–0.
CAF determined that this action constituted a violation of Article 84, or the equivalent regulations concerning refusal to play or abandoning the field.
Under AFCON rules, a team that refuses to continue playing or leaves the field without authorization faces elimination and forfeiture of the match.
A total of three operatives of different security agencies in Anambra State collapsed during the inauguration of Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday.
The incident happened during the parade at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
The three operatives are one male police operative, another male operative of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) and a female operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
The police operative collapsed first, followed by the NSCDC operative, who slumped towards the end of the event and was later escorted to an ambulance, after she refused to be moved in a stretcher.
A source said the police operative was later resuscitated, but was still not stable, and was taken in an ambulance to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka.
The collapse of the service officers was attributed to fatigue and the long period of parade under harsh sunny weather.
