Commissioner Of Police FCT Redeploys DPO over video of alleged assault

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Miller Dantawaye, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Ushafa.

This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, on Thursday in Abuja.

“This decision follows the circulation of a video on X (formerly Twitter) depicting the DPO slapping a young man on Wednesday.
“The CP strongly condemned the officer’s actions, which fall short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police officers,” she said.

Adeh stated that the CP had warned that such behaviour was unacceptable and would not be tolerated under his leadership.

She added that the officer had been redeployed back to the FCT Police Command Headquarters while the situation is currently under investigation.

“While administrative disciplinary steps are being taken, the CP has reminded all DPOs and their subordinates that they must remain professional, courteous, and law-abiding in the discharge of their duties.
“The CP has warned that any act of misconduct or abuse of power will attract severe sanctions,” she said.

She further noted that the CP had enjoined the public to remain respectful and law-abiding in their interactions with police officers, adding that mutual respect and cooperation are key to effective community policing and public safety.

Adeh urged residents of the FCT to report any suspicious activity or persons to the police through the command’s emergency numbers 08061581938, 08032003913, and 08107314192.
