Wike Revokes Jonathan’s Wife, Ex-Govs as FCTA Seizes 1,095 Properties
The Federal Capital Territory has entered another round of massive enforcement as the FCTA announced the revocation of 1,095 property titles across Abuja.
The latest action, approved by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, targets individuals, organisations, and government bodies that failed to clear various land-related charges.
The announcement, made public through an official notice earlier in the week, confirms that the administration has now begun taking possession of the affected properties.
Many of the revoked assets sit in some of Abuja’s most expensive neighbourhoods, including Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, and Garki.
According to the notice, the 14-day final grace period issued to defaulting owners expired on November 25.
With the deadline now over, the administration moved immediately to enforce penalties against those who ignored repeated reminders.
The document titled “Commencement of Enforcement Actions on Defaulters of Ground Rent Payments, Land Use Conversion Fee, C of O Bills in the Federal Capital Territory” explained that the sanction became necessary after years of unpaid fees.
The affected defaulters reportedly violated the terms of their Rights of Occupancy as provided under Section 28(5)(a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.
Breakdown of the figures shows that 835 properties were revoked for failing to clear ground rent arrears, while 260 others owed violation penalties and land-use conversion fees. With the revocation now concluded, all affected titles revert to the FCTA.
A number of well-known Nigerians have been named among those affected.
They include former First Lady Patience Jonathan, former governors Abdullahi Ganduje, Sule Lamido, Donald Duke, Ayo Fayose, and Iyiola Omisore. Former Senate President David Mark, former PDP chairman Uche Secondus, and several ex-lawmakers and political figures were also listed.
Some organisations were not spared. The Central Bank of Nigeria, the governments of Borno and Oyo States, several ministries, private companies, and hotels all featured in the roll of defaulters.
Officials noted that this action is part of a broader campaign to restore order to Abuja’s land administration system.
The minister has repeatedly warned that landowners must comply with statutory obligations or face forfeiture, stressing that public infrastructure and services rely heavily on revenue from these charges.
This latest clampdown follows an earlier operation carried out in May 2025, during which 4,794 properties were also reclaimed by the administration.
Many of those previously revoked assets had accumulated unpaid dues for decades.
With the new round of revocations completed, the FCTA has indicated that it may move to take physical possession of the properties at any time.
