The Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, on Friday received his Labour Party nomination forms free of charge from the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party.

Leading other members of the NWC to the Abia State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, where the brief presentation ceremony took place, was the party’s National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, who spoke on behalf of the delegation.

Senator Usman commended Governor Otti for serving as the poster boy of the Labour Party and for faithfully implementing the party’s ideals of equal opportunities and social justice in the governance of Abia State.

She stated that the nomination forms were presented to him free of charge in recognition of his outstanding performance in office and as an encouragement for him to continue delivering quality governance to the people of the state.

In his remarks, the party’s National Secretary, Hon. Obioma Iheanacho, thanked Governor Otti for his steadfast faith in and commitment to the Labour Party, even at a time when the party was faced with internal challenges and many others had abandoned it for different political platforms.

He praised the governor’s consistency, both in politics and governance.

Responding, Governor Otti thanked the party’s NWC for the honour done to him, assuring them that he did not take the gesture lightly.

He pledged not to disappoint the party and promised to continue supporting it in every possible way.

The governor also commended Senator Nenadi Usman for her leadership in steering the party out of the protracted crisis that had hitherto plagued it.

He further expressed confidence that the coast was now clear for the Labour Party to proceed into the next general elections, as all legal impediments confronting the party had been effectively and exhaustively resolved, with no subsisting litigation anywhere against the party.

Senator Usman was accompanied by the party’s National Secretary, Hon. Obioma Iheanacho; National Organising Secretary, Mrs. Oluchi Oparah; National Woman Leader, Hilda Dokubo; and the National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa.

Also present at the ceremony were the immediate past National Secretary of the party, Distinguished Senator Darlington Nwokocha, who equally received his free nomination form from the NWC; Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, caucus leader of Abia State members in the House of Representatives, who led other federal lawmakers from the state; as well as members of the Abia State Executive Council.

INTERNAL CRISIS: Court Cases Avenue to Ambush ADC, Create Clear Pathway for APC – Ladan Salihu

Published

on

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Ladan Salihu, has described the party’s court cases as an avenue to ambush the party and create a one-way traffic for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections.

Salihu made this statement on Friday during a live appearance in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.

He was speaking on the leadership crisis in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, Nafiu Bala Gombe resigned from his position in the party, stressing that they have his signature on the resignation letter.

“This case has been settled. It is all in a trap to ambush the ADC and to make sure that a pathway is created for the APC and the presidential candidate to have a one-way traffic to 2027.

“Our legal team is right on top of this matter. The fact of the matter remains that Nafiu Gombe resigned. We have his papers, we have his signatures, we have everything, and this guy is a willing tool in the hands of the APC and the government,” Salihu said.

Court Sets May 19 For Trial of Sokoto ADC Leadership Matter

Published

on

A Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto has adjourned the hearing of a suit challenging the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in the state to May 19, 2026.

The court, presided over by Justice Ahmad Gama Mahmud, fixed the date on Friday after hearing an application seeking accelerated hearing of the matter due to the urgency of the party’s internal election timetable.

The suit, filed by Umar Faruk and three others, is challenging the leadership structure of the ADC in Sokoto State and seeking to determine the rightful executives of the party.

Lead counsel to the plaintiffs, Mathew Burkaa, SAN, told the court that the dispute centres on the control of the party’s state chapter, particularly the positions of chairman and secretary.

According to him, the plaintiffs are contesting the claims of the defendants, who currently occupy the said positions, insisting that they remain the legitimate leaders of the party in the state.

“That is the crux of the matter before this court,” Burkaa said, maintaining that his clients were duly elected and recognised as the authentic state leadership of the ADC in Sokoto.

He also told the court that the plaintiffs sought an abridgement of time to ensure the matter is resolved before the party’s primary election scheduled for May 21, 2026.

“The motion is asking for an abridgement of time so that the case can be heard expeditiously and concluded before ADC primaries are held here in Sokoto,” he submitted.

Justice Mahmud granted the application, noting the urgency of the case in relation to the party’s electoral timetable, and ordered that the matter proceed on an accelerated basis.

The court also directed the defendants to file their responses within a shortened timeframe ahead of the next adjourned date.

Speaking after the proceedings, counsel to the plaintiffs, Fidelis Mnyim, said the court had set clear timelines for filing processes by both parties to ensure an expedited hearing.

He added that all necessary responses are expected to be filed before the next hearing date.

The case was adjourned to May 19, 2026, for hearing of the substantive suit.
