Former President Goodluck Jonathan Recalls the Leadership of his Predecessor, Late Former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as Selfless
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has recalled the selfless leadership of his predecessor, late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle on Tuesday, Jonathan said Yar’Adua did not just lead but served with a humility that is rare in the corridors of power, often putting national stability above personal or political gain.
According to him, Yar’Adua was a man of quiet but profound conviction who believed that the strength of a country is measured by its commitment to the rule of law and the sanctity of the ballot.
He prayed that Almighty God continues to grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.
DAILY POST recalls that Yar’Adua died on May 5, 2010 as a serving President.
“Today marks 16 years since our nation lost a dear hero, an icon of integrity, a selfless patriot, and a man I was privileged to call not just my boss, but my brother and worthy partner in service.
“As I reflect on the passing of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, I am reminded of the shared passion we both held for a Nigeria where justice is not a slogan, but a lived reality for every citizen.
“Our partnership was anchored on a common vision: to build an inclusive, united, and just nation.
“His record in peace-building stands as an enduring legacy. He understood that true nation-building requires the courage to admit flaws and the sincerity to fix them.
“For leaders, the life of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua serves as an enduring lesson. His example teaches us that leadership is a sacred trust, and that progress is only sustainable when it is rooted in transparency, accountability, and a genuine love for the people.
“Sixteen years later, his strides continue to testify for him. As we remember this ‘Gentleman President’, let us rededicate ourselves to the worthy causes he pursued with such passion,” Jonathan wrote.

BREAKING: Reps Member Taura Loses Return Ticket as Jigawa APC Adopts Consensus Candidates
The member representing Ringim and Taura Federal Constituency, Hon. Sa’adu Wada Taura, has lost his bid to secure a return ticket ahead of the next election cycle following the adoption of a consensus arrangement by stakeholders.
Hon. Taura was edged out by Hon. Yusha’u Muhammad, who emerged as the preferred candidate after a screening process coordinated by a committee inaugurated by Governor Umar Namadi.
The committee was tasked with assessing aspirants and narrowing the field to three before a final consensus candidate was selected. Findings indicate that no fewer than eleven aspirants had initially expressed interest in contesting the seat.
The developments come amid growing discontent within the constituency over recent actions by Hon. Taura.
The federal lawmaker had earlier faced a backlash after publishing a list of constituents who allegedly received financial support from him since assuming office in 2023. The move sparked outrage, with some beneficiaries rejecting the disclosure and returning the funds to his personal account.
Meanwhile, the member representing Ringim Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Sule Sankara, has also lost his return ticket.
He was replaced by Hon. Hamza Muhammad Ustaz, who emerged through the same consensus process.
