‎1. A coordinated wave of protests demanding the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, swept through the Federal Capital Territory and several South-East states on Monday, disrupting commercial activities and grounding transportation. Some of the protesters were arrested by the police.

2. The African Democratic Congress has cautioned the Federal Government against using the recent reports of an alleged coup plot as a pretext to clamp down on opposition leaders or stifle dissenting voices. In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, warned that any attempt to exploit the rumoured coup for political gain would endanger Nigeria’s democracy and fundamental freedoms.

3. The arraignment of the self-acclaimed ‘Obi of Lagos,’ Chibuike Azubuike, and three others before the state’s High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, over alleged unlawful assembly, was on Monday stalled due to the absence of the fourth defendant. Azubuike alongside chief Martins Nwaodika, Chibuzor Ani and Dr Sunday Udeh, was charged before Justice Abdul-Raheem Muyideen, by the Lagos State Government.

4. The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State, Bridget Asekhauno, has said no fewer than 21 persons lost their lives while 144 were injured in road crashes that occurred across the state between January and October 2025. Asekhauno disclosed this on Monday during a press conference to flag off the 2025 “Ember months” public enlightenment campaign themed, ‘Take responsibility for your safety: Stop distracted driving.’

5. The Nigeria Police Force has recovered two high-end vehicles stolen from the Netherlands and smuggled into Nigeria. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Monday stated that the vehicles, a Toyota C-HR (2020 model) and a Toyota RAV4 (2019 model) were traced to separate locations in Lagos and Akwa Ibom States by operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau, Abuja.

6. Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke said he has no plan either now or in the near future to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adeleke, who is the Deputy Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee of the PDP, also said the party will come out of its crisis stronger.

7. The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of Lt. -Col Aliyu Saidu Paiko and other soldiers following vicious attacks on unarmed civilians in Borno State by Boko Haram Terrorists. Army spokeswoman, Lt.-Col Appolonia Anele, said on Monday that most of the terrorists were killed in the gun battle with troops with a handful of them sustaining injuries.

8. A Kano High Court has sentenced two men to death by hanging for stabbing to death a lecturer with the state-owned university, Northwest University Kano, Buhari Imam. The duo of Aliyu Hussaini and Amir Zakariyya were convicted on a three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.

9. Troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in conjunction with other security agencies, have attested 28 suspected oil thieves and recovered 290,000 litres of stolen petroleum products. The Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel, Jonah Danjuma, who disclosed this in a statement in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said the success was recorded in its operation in states of the region between October 6 and 19.

10. Two persons were beheaded, weekend, following the renewed clash between the youths of Ochon in Obubra Local Government Area and their Ofutop counterparts in Ikom Local Government Area, all in Cross River State. The clash, which occurred inside farmland, saw the shooting to death of two youths said to be from Ochon and their heads removed by their assailants.
