Nigeria is bleeding daily, our leaders have normalised failure
Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, says Nigeria is “bleeding daily” under a leadership that has normalised failure and indifference to public suffering.
Obi said this in a statement on his Facebook page after he revealed some group of young Nigerians at the Abuja airport.
He said the youths expressed concern that he had not commented on recent developments in the country, including ambassadorial nominations, security failures and governance controversies.
The former Anambra governor said the concerns reflect the growing pain among citizens who feel abandoned by those in authority.
“There is a pain one carries silently when watching a nation you love bleed daily,” Obi said.
He said the situation in Nigeria has become so dire that the country is increasingly mocked on the global stage.
He criticised recent ambassadorial nominations, saying they reflect a system that elevates mediocrity over competence.
“With a leadership that has allowed mediocrity, corruption and impunity to rise to the top, who else did you expect them to choose?” he asked.
Obi faulted public officials for hosting celebrations while killings, abductions and hunger persist across the country.
“When our people are being killed, our leaders are busy hosting dinners. When children are being snatched from their schools, the political class is celebrating and dancing. This is certainly not the Nigeria we deserve,” he said.
He urged Nigerian youths to remain hopeful and continue demanding accountability and reform, adding that the dream of a “New Nigeria” remains alive and achievable despite current challenges.
“It will happen because people like you refuse to accept failure as our destiny,” he said.
He vowed to continue speaking out, insisting that Nigeria “can and must be better”.
