Texas Governor, Greg Abbott has designated the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR as “foreign terrorist” and “transnational criminal” organizations.
The governor announced that the Muslim civil rights group was designated due to their engagement in terrorism across the world.
By the designation, the group is now banned from buying or acquiring land in the state.
The governor in a post on X said he has also authorized the Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton to sue the organizations to “shut them down”.
DAILY POST reports that the Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 as a transnational Islamist organization with offshoots including Hamas.
Similarly, CAIR was founded in 1994 and was the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States.
The organization had denied having any relations with the Muslim Brotherhood, stating that it has never been “an affiliate, offshoot, chapter, or agent of any foreign movement, organization, political party or government.”
