Illegal Number Plates, Sirens Banished To Curtail Crime

As part of efforts to safeguard lives, prevent crime, and enhance public safety, the Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating with illegal plate numbers, temporary plates, and the unauthorised use of sirens and amber lights.

The Command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.

Babaseyi explained that such vehicles are often exploited to facilitate criminal activities, posing serious threats to public safety.

According to him, offenders are being identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with extant laws.

“To ensure professional and lawful enforcement, specialised units including the Motor Traffic Department, Monitoring Unit, and X-Squad have been deployed for operational oversight.

“Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers are supervising activities within their jurisdictions to guarantee fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to approved operational guidelines” the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, he urged members of the public to cooperate with officers, comply with traffic and safety regulations, avoid patronising suspicious vehicles, and use only recognised motor parks and designated pick-up points.

Babaseyi assured that the enforcement is aimed at preventing crime, maintaining public order, and protecting lives, while upholding the rights and dignity of all road users.
