The scheduled capacity for flights would be cut by 10 percent from Friday in 40 busy air traffic areas, US officials said on Wednesday.
This is due to an ongoing government shutdown, which has resulted in major staffing woes.
“There is going to be a 10-percent reduction in capacity at 40 of our locations,” Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, told a news conference.
Federal Aviation Administration chief, Bryan Bedford, also revealed that the cuts would come at “40 high traffic environment markets.”
The airports that would be affected have not yet been confirmed.
The shutdown, which entered its 36th full day on Wednesday, is now the longest in American history.
