Free Nnamdi Kanu: APC Accuses Opposition Politicians for using protest to seek relevance
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused opposition politicians of using the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protests to cause tension and score cheap political points.
In a statement on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, described the protests as orchestrated tension and politically motivated street agitations taking place in parts of the country, especially in the South East.
He said that while freedom of expression and peaceful protest are essential in a democracy, the ongoing demonstrations represent a dangerous display of reckless politics rather than a genuine call for justice.
“This so-called protest is not about justice; it is about political frustration,” Oladejo said.
“It represents the height of bitter, destructive politics an attempt by those who have been roundly rejected by Nigerians at the polls to exploit national issues in search of cheap relevance.”
He further described the demonstrations as “street theatrics” allegedly sponsored by opposition leaders desperate to regain public attention.
“Their involvement reveals what can only be described as a classic case of the Biblical hand of Jacob but the voice of Esau, deceitful manipulation hiding behind the façade of activism,” he added.
“They will not gain in the streets what they have disgracefully lost at the polls.”
Oladejo accused the protest organizers of insensitivity, saying their actions “mock the memories of victims of violence, kidnappings, and insecurity” that have affected the South East for years.
“At a time when the South East is still bleeding from years of mindless bloodshed and enforced sit-at-home orders, these individuals have chosen to mock the memories of the victims,” the statement read.
He said ordinary citizens in the region have suffered enough due to insecurity with traders afraid to open shops, children missing school, and families shattered — warning that such protests only “fan the embers of division.”
Oladejo reminded Nigerians that Nnamdi Kanu’s case remains before the courts, stressing that “no one is above the law.”
He described Nigeria’s judiciary as competent, independent, and capable of delivering justice without mob pressure or street intimidation.
He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on rebuilding the economy, restoring investor confidence, and promoting unity, noting that the South East has benefitted from key appointments and infrastructural development.
“True progress will come not from chaos but from cooperation and peace,” he said.
The Lagos APC finally urged security agencies to remain vigilant and called on South East leaders to reject “the antics of those who traffic in bitterness.”
“Nigeria belongs to all of us, and we must not allow political desperation to tear it apart. There must indeed be a limit to bitter politics,” the statement concluded.

Morocco Winners of AFCON 2025, Strips Senegal of Title
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Morocco as winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The CAF Appeal Board ruled in favour of Morocco, declaring that Senegal forfeited the AFCON final by walking off the field during the game.
Morocco were awarded a 3–0 walkover victory.
This decision upholds Morocco’s appeal following the chaotic events in the match.
DAILY POST recalls that the Senegal team briefly walked off the pitch in protest after a controversial penalty was awarded to Morocco late in regulation time.
They were called back to the field by their captain, Sadio Mané, and later won the game 1–0.
CAF determined that this action constituted a violation of Article 84, or the equivalent regulations concerning refusal to play or abandoning the field.
Under AFCON rules, a team that refuses to continue playing or leaves the field without authorization faces elimination and forfeiture of the match.

A total of three operatives of different security agencies in Anambra State collapsed during the inauguration of Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday.
The incident happened during the parade at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
The three operatives are one male police operative, another male operative of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) and a female operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
The police operative collapsed first, followed by the NSCDC operative, who slumped towards the end of the event and was later escorted to an ambulance, after she refused to be moved in a stretcher.
A source said the police operative was later resuscitated, but was still not stable, and was taken in an ambulance to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka.
The collapse of the service officers was attributed to fatigue and the long period of parade under harsh sunny weather.
