Breaking News: FG Speaks On Report Of Military Coup, Dismissed Speculations Against Tinubu
The Federal Government on Sunday dismissed speculations of an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu, insisting it has absolute confidence in the Nigerian military.
Naija News reports that the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in an interview with Punch, said the Tinubu administration had no reason to doubt the assurances given by the Defence Headquarters, which earlier denied reports linking the detention of 16 officers to a coup attempt.
Idris stated, “The Federal Government has no reason to doubt the military on what it has said.
“The Federal Government believes that the Armed Forces of Nigeria is committed to ensuring the territorial integrity of the country and also strengthening its fight against insecurity. The Federal Government commends the military, and it will continue to support them in their task of ensuring the security of Nigeria.”
On Saturday, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, had strongly refuted claims by Sahara Reporters that the detention of 16 officers was connected to a failed coup and the cancellation of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day parade.
Gusau described the report as “fake and intended to cause unnecessary tension and distrust among the populace.”
He explained that the cancellation of the October 1 parade was “purely administrative,” noting it was to allow President Tinubu to attend a bilateral meeting abroad while also enabling troops to sustain ongoing operations against insurgency and banditry.
Addressing concerns over the detained officers, Gusau said the process was an internal disciplinary matter.
He said, “The ongoing investigation involving the 16 officers is a routine internal process aimed at ensuring discipline and professionalism is maintained within the ranks. An investigative panel has been duly constituted, and its findings would be made public.”
Reiterating the military’s loyalty to democracy, Gusau stressed, “Democracy is forever.”

Morocco Winners of AFCON 2025, Strips Senegal of Title
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Morocco as winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The CAF Appeal Board ruled in favour of Morocco, declaring that Senegal forfeited the AFCON final by walking off the field during the game.
Morocco were awarded a 3–0 walkover victory.
This decision upholds Morocco’s appeal following the chaotic events in the match.
DAILY POST recalls that the Senegal team briefly walked off the pitch in protest after a controversial penalty was awarded to Morocco late in regulation time.
They were called back to the field by their captain, Sadio Mané, and later won the game 1–0.
CAF determined that this action constituted a violation of Article 84, or the equivalent regulations concerning refusal to play or abandoning the field.
Under AFCON rules, a team that refuses to continue playing or leaves the field without authorization faces elimination and forfeiture of the match.

BREAKING NEWS: 3 security Agent Slump During Soludo’s 2nd Term Inauguration
A total of three operatives of different security agencies in Anambra State collapsed during the inauguration of Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday.
The incident happened during the parade at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
The three operatives are one male police operative, another male operative of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) and a female operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
The police operative collapsed first, followed by the NSCDC operative, who slumped towards the end of the event and was later escorted to an ambulance, after she refused to be moved in a stretcher.
A source said the police operative was later resuscitated, but was still not stable, and was taken in an ambulance to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka.
The collapse of the service officers was attributed to fatigue and the long period of parade under harsh sunny weather.
